Alan Shearer has been shocked by the goings on at West Ham United recently.

Shearer has actually been highly critical of West Ham in recent weeks, highlighting how the players’ lack of belief could see them get relegated down to the Championship.

One of England’s top pundits, Shearer regularly shares his opinion on a wide-range of Premier League clubs.

This time, Shearer has focused his attention on the Hammers’ current situation.

Nuno Espirito Santo faces an incredibly tough task if he is to guide his side away from the relegation zone.

But Shearer thinks he has made a rod for his own back.

Alan Shearer says West Ham have taken a ‘huge gamble’

West Ham’s survival hopes still look rather bleak, despite Saturday’s sensational 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the fans still believe that the great escape could be on, especially if Nuno adds one or two more new signings to his ranks before the January transfer window closes.

When speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, Shearer outlined how he has been hugely surprised by some of West Ham’s January transfer business.

“It’s a really strange situation with Callum Wilson, Shearer suggested.

They signed two centre forwards at West Ham for nearly 50 million quid on a huge gamble to try and keep them in the league.

It’s a great point by Shearer.

The outlay on Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe really was rather substantial, given the fact that neither of them are proven in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer comments on ‘strange’ Nuno Espirito Santo comments

After highlighting the Hammers’ huge gamble on signing two unproven strikers, Shearer turned his attention to Nuno.

If you could only keep ONE of these two players in January – who would it be?!

The former Newcastle United striker suggested that the West Ham manager’s comments on Callum Wilson were strange to say the least.

I listened to the manager, Nuno, say it might be his time to find somewhere else or whatever, Shearer said.

But then you turn to him in the last two minutes, he scores the winning goal and gets you three huge points. Yeah, really strange.”

Keeping Wilson at the London Stadium will be crucial to the Hammers’ hopes of avoiding the drop this season.

As Alan Shearer said, some of West Ham’s transfer window business has been slightly strange in January.

Hopefully Nuno manages to bring in a couple more established players before deadline day on February 2nd.
