West Ham United were beaten by Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium on Tuesday night and the general feeling is that the result has all but confirmed the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League.

While West Ham obviously still have a mathematical chance of avoiding the drop, the writing is on the wall at the London Stadium.

However, Adrian Durham thinks the Hammers were very hard done by during their defeat to Forest.

Premier League safety now seems like nothing more than a pipe-dream for West Ham, with seven points separating them and 17th placed Forest.

HEARTBREAKER! How are you feeling after Hammers 1-2 Forest 💔

The defeat which sends West Ham down?

Alphonse Areola of West Ham United comes out to attempt to punch the ball and collides with Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest to concede a penalty during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 06, 2026 in London, England.

Nuno Espirito Santo has pleaded with West Ham fans for patience, but it all feels like a case of too little, too late.

In fairness to the Hammers, they definitely didn’t deserve to lose on Tuesday night.

Adrian Durham says Premier League made error during West Ham vs Nottingham Forest

Durham is one of the most controversial and highly outspoken figures in the game.

However, it’s fair to say that the talkSPORT broadcaster often does come out with some strong takes and opinion.

He took to his X account on Tuesday night after West Ham lost 2-1 to Forest at the London Stadium and highlighted a potentially major problem that he noticed.

Durham said: Sure he’s in an offside position. But was it a pass? If it’s not a pass then it can’t be offside. Did anyone check if it was a Milenkovic tackle that fell to Castellanos?

The talkSPORT man has absolutely nailed this.

Did anybody check if it was Milenkovic’s tackle that fell to Taty Castellanos?

Because it certainly looked like that was what happened.

The decision that ended West Ham’s Premier League survival hopes

When Crysencio Summerville scored for the Hammers, the game was dead and buried.

What did YOU make of the penalty which gifted Forest the win?

What defence could Areola have?

Tomas Soucek of West Ham United gestures during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 6, 2026 in London, England.

However, after it was ruled out, there was an ominous feeling around the London Stadium regarding what was coming next.

Forest scored twice and took all three points.

A draw would have been bad enough for West Ham, but a defeat? That was something that the Hammers simply couldn’t afford.

West Ham now sit seven points behind 17th placed Forest in the Premier League table and everything seems pretty bleak in east London.

As Adrian Durham suggested though, the Premier League failed West Ham on Tuesday night and that is simply unacceptable.
