West Ham United’s time with Axel Disasi appears to be coming to an end – but AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana is just happy it happened.

Indeed, Disasi has said goodbye to West Ham fans after his loan spell from Chelsea came to a disappointing conclusion.

While Disasi was an excellent signing for West Ham United, he alone was not enough to keep the Irons in the Premier League.

As such, it’s incredibly hard to imagine that the club will be able to sign him permanently.

Fofana was so impressed that he responded to Disasi’s Instagram post and thanked him for his service.

Fofana and Disasi have played together for both Monaco and the French national team, of course.

The Milan midfielder responded to Disasi’s post with: “Thank you Axel.”

What did YOU make of Callum Wilson’s exit?

Nuno might've missed a trick…

Interestingly, Fofana has been linked with a transfer to West Ham, though that is surely no longer on the cards following their relegation from the Premier League.

Players of his stature now just look to be out of reach for West Ham, sadly.

Indeed, they will no doubt face a fight to keep their own leading talents, never mind signing players from other major teams.

Fofana aside, not being able to keep Disasi is a major blow.

The defender was excellent and West Ham had dreams of signing him on a permanent basis, with the France international consistently talking of how happy he was at the club.

Sadly, however, relegation to the Championship makes that a hugely unrealistic outcome. Disasi would have put himself in the shop window here in east London and suitors are likely to come.

It’s a huge shame for West Ham, who might well have stayed up if they had been able to sign Disasi quicker during the January transfer window.
