A resilient West Ham United defence were helpless to prevent Leandro Trossard’s late winner as Mateus Fernandes’ huge miss helped Premier League leaders Arsenal edge a nervy 1-0 win at the London Stadium.
Here is how Hammers News rated our players.
Mads Hermansen – 7
Fine reflex save early on. Despite Arsenal’s domination of possession, he didn’t have a whole lot to do after that. Alert off his line to gather on a few occasions.
No chance really for the goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Good cross for Castellanos chance. Wan-Bissaka replaced an in-form Kyle Walker-Peters and justified his inclusion.
Jean-Clair Todibo – 7
Settled after a difficult start for he and the rest of the backline. An excellent squad player.
Konstantinos Mavropanos – 8
Outrageous block to stop a certain goal as Arsenal dominated early on. Mavropanos was decisive the line again in the second-half, and again made umpteen clearances. Nearly set up stoppage-time equaliser for Callum Wilson.
The best player on the pitch against his old club.
Axel Disasi – 7
One errant pass meant he needed bailing out by Mavropanos but otherwise solid.
Replaced by Callum Wilson on 85.
A devastating finale, but who was your West Ham MOTM? 😪
El Hadji Malick Diouf – 6
Offered an outlet going forward but his crossing left a lot to be desired. Defensively, did well to read Saka’s movement at times. A much better delivery with 20 minutes left would have created a chance for Pablo if not for some last-ditch Declan Rice defending.
Diouf had a nightmare against Brentford eight days earlier, and some will argue he should have done more in the build-up to Trossard’s strike.
Mateus Fernandes – 6

Wasted West Ham’s best chance on 77 minutes when David Raya smothered his shot one-v-one. Arguably waited too long to shoot. Miss became even more costly when Trossard scored six minutes later.
The lion-hearted Fernandes put himself about, as per, and never shirked challenges. Again, topped the tackle charts. Left furious after it was ruled he had fouled the returning Rice.
Tomas Soucek – 6
Did more work in his own box than Arsenal’s. Helped out with his sizeable presence when the Gunners slung in a series of crosses. Didn’t deserve the winner to deflect in off him.
Jarrod Bowen – 5
One nice give and go at the edge of the box but snatched at shot. Not much came off for him.
Crysencio Summerville – 7
Looked like West Ham’s biggest threat. Had their first shot on goal after typical weaving run in the 36th minute. Also inadvertently forced Ben White off with an injury as Mikel Arteta oddly shifted Declan Rice to right-back.
Worked so hard off the ball, too. Drew quickfire bookings from Saka and Yerson Mosquera. Probably the more threatening of the two wingers down that flank.
Taty Castellanos – 6
Unlucky with fantastic diving header on the stroke of half time. Looked up for this but chances were – unsurprisingly – at a premium. Got through a lot of work chasing shadows and leading the press.
Replaced by Pablo on 66 minutes.
Give us your response to Callum Wilson’s VAR heartbreak? 😫
The right call? Or harsh on Pablo?
Substitutes
Pablo Felipe – 3
Foul on David Raya meant West Ham celebrations were agonisingly cut short.
Pablo nearly went from zero to hero when setting up Fernandes’ glorious late chance in normal time. Hard to see how he salvages his West Ham career from here.
Callum Wilson – N/A
Denied a legendary goal.
