Andriy Yarmolenko scored for West Ham yesterday during our 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the London Stadium.
And Pablo Fornals offered high words of praise for his Ukrainian teammate when speaking to reporters after the game.
The 32-year-has has obviously been going through an incredibly tough time over the past couple of weeks or so after Russia invaded Ukraine.
It has been difficult enough for us here in England to comprehend, so imagine just how bad it must be for the Ukrainian people.
Yarmo came on off the bench yesterday to replace Michail Antonio in the second-half after the 31-year-old left the field with some kind of leg injury.
And Yarmolenko scored a truly unbelievable goal to put West Ham 1-0 up against Aston Villa. It was a magical moment for the Ukrainian, his teammates, the Hammers fans and every single Ukrainian across the globe.
Fornals raves about Yarmolenko after West Ham beat Aston Villa
Yarmo broke down in tears after he found the back of the net against Villa, as did some of his teammates.
It was an incredibly emotional moment inside the London Stadium and it almost seemed as though it was written in the stars.
And Fornals said the Ukrainian ace was ‘unbelievable’ against Villa yesterday, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Yarmo has this [quality]. In training, you can see how he is finishing [goals] with both feet. It was an unbelievable goal. He has always scored goals with precision, so it was the best moment to do it to help us, to help himself and to help his country. We tried to give a bit of emotional support to him.”
Hopefully yesterday’s goal will give Yarmolenko a much-needed boost amidst these horrendous times for him and his family.
From a footballing perspective, it was a truly massive goal for the 32-year-old. Without that bit of magic from Yarmolenko, we would not have won the game against Aston Villa.
Yarmolenko was a key reason why West Ham beat Aston Villa at the London Stadium yesterday. And nobody would have predicted that a couple of weeks ago.
Good on you Andriy, everyone at West Ham is right behind you.
