Nuno Espirito Santo to axe Tomas Soucek vs Brighton after what he did in West Ham draw against Man United

Tomas Soucek was handed a start by Nuno Espirito Santo as West Ham secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Soungoutou Magassa’s late goal for West Ham saw them pick up a well-earned point from their travels to Manchester.

Nuno’s side remain in the bottom three, but it was a positive result for them, all things considered.

While most Hammers players did well, the same cannot be said about Soucek.

The Czech Republic international was played on the right, which was a mistake in itself, but his technical flaws were exposed to no end.

Not only did he struggle to get the ball into the box, but he also had problems finding his teammates and making the right decision in the opposition half.

Soucek had a hard time keeping hold of the ball and even got dispossessed on 15 occasions.

West Ham take on Brighton next and it makes sense for Nuno to drop the midfielder, who only seemed to start because Lucas Paqueta and Crysencio Summerville were unavailable.

Brighton are also flying high and are going to make it extremely tough for the Hammers, so the Portuguese manager will want technical players in his eleven to combat that threat.

Soucek, with a pass accuracy of 55 per cent and just 20 per cent with long balls, does not have the out-ball delivering ability needed to hit the opponents on the counter attack, and he cannot start against Brighton.

Who will Nuno turn to against Brighton?

While getting a draw at Old Trafford is a respectable result, Nuno will almost certainly look to make changes to his playing eleven.

The obvious option for him is to bring Paqueta in, as he will have served his suspension post his red card against Liverpool.

Magassa, Freddie Potts and Mateus Fernandes all proved that they deserve to start the next one and Jarrod Bowen is most certainly going to retain his spot.

If Summerville is fit in time, he would come in for Soucek, but the likeliest option is for Nuno to start Paqueta and remove the 30-year-old from the eleven.
