Michail Antonio put in yet another awful pre-season performance for West Ham United, this time against Luton Town today.
The 32-year-old has hardly hit the ground running for the Hammers during pre-season, far from it in fact.
David Moyes clearly understands just how important it will be for him to sign an elite centre-forward this summer.
And it’s little wonder why the Scot is so keen to get the Italian to the London Stadium before the start of the new season…
Michail Antonio woeful once again for West Ham
Firstly, we have to say that Micky has been brilliant for the Hammers leading the line on his own for the past 18 months.
He clearly has his limitations though.
One of Antonio’s worst attributes is his finishing when he has plenty of time to think. When he acts on instinct in front of goal, he’s usually pretty good.
It’s a different story all together when he’s bearing down on goal with time on his hands though.
Michail Antonio’s glaring miss for West Ham against Luton Town this afternoon further underlined the importance of Moyes signing a new striker this summer.
Gianluca Scamacca, what with his quality, mobility and finishing ability, will be a huge upgrade on Antonio.
The 32-year-old still has a big role to play for the Hammers over the next few years.
Michail Antonio absolutely shouldn’t be leading the line for West Ham on a consistent basis anymore though.
And his display against Luton Town this afternoon lent further credence to that notion.
