West Ham United’s relegation was confirmed on the 38th and final match of the Premier League season.

But as far as Ian Wright is concerned, the damage was done on matchday 37.

West Ham slipped to a 3-1 loss at Newcastle on a day when Nuno Espirito Santo’s selection ‘mistakes’ cost the Londoners dear. A drab defeat in the North East left West Ham United needing a miracle on Sunday.

“Of course, you can go back to any game that they lost, but it was that one in particular [which cost West Ham]. They dropped the ball.

“It was one of the most pitiful performances I’ve seen from a side who are going against relegation.”

West Ham finish the 2025/26 campaign with 39 points. This means that, of the five sides to be relegated out of the Premier League with the highest points tally, the Hammers feature twice on that list.
