The victory kept us well in the mix for the top four and that is an outstanding feat considering the fact that we are midway through March and have one of the smallest squads in the Premier League.
What a performance by the lads and what a result.
Today’s result was all about Yarmolenko though. The 32-year-old has gone through a horrendous time over the past two weeks after Russia invaded his home country Ukraine.

As the war continues, we can’t comprehend just how hard it must be for Yarmo to go about his business. He proved just how committed he is this afternoon during our win over Aston Villa at the London Stadium though…
Moyes shares what happened after Andriy Yarmolenko goal in West Ham dressing room
The Ukraine international came on as a second-half substitute in place of the injured Michail Antonio.
Andriy Yarmolenko scored a quite brilliant goal to put is 1-0 up and without that moment of brilliance, we would not have won the game.
David Moyes spoke to reporters after the match and shared what the West Ham players did in tribute to their 32-year-old teammate in the dressing room after he scored against Villa today, as quoted by Football.London:

“He was brought in and the whole dressing room applauded him and it was a big moment for him it really was. I hope in some way what the media puts out shows in some way how everybody is thinking about it because football has a huge appeal all around the world and I hope in some way if you big it up enough it will do something to help stop this and maybe give the Ukrainians something to shout about that they are seeing we are talking about it in this country all the time.”
How good is that. Well done lads.
It’s nice to know that Yarmolenko is being supported to the hilt by not only the football club but his teammates as well.
These are obviously incredibly hard times for Andriy Yarmolenko. They are for every single Ukrainian in the world. The 32-year-old’s goal today was hugely significant for us a football club but it also would have sent a real message of hope around the globe.
Andriy Yarmolenko scoring a goal this afternoon was written in the stars.
We’re all with you Yarmo.
