The 24-year-old, signed from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for £25 million according to The Express, has barely played for the Hammers this season.

He got his chance last night, however, with Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena both ruled out through injury.

It was clear to see that Diop was a bit nervy inside the first 15 minutes or so.

The towering Frenchman slowly began to show his class, however. There is definitely a player in there somewhere.

David Moyes spoke to reporters after the game and delivered his verdict on Issa Diop’s display for West Ham last night, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think it was a big night for Issa, I think he started a little bit ropey but as it went on he got better and grew into the game.”

With Ogbonna set to be out for around a month, now is the time for Issa Diop to really kick on.

The 24-year-old needs to assert himself more during the early stages of games.

If the Hammers ace maintains the levels he displayed for the final two thirds of the game last night, however, he will have a very bright future at the London Stadium.
