The 30-year-old joined the Hammers in October on a season-long loan from Watford.

Craig Dawson had to wait until last night before making his first senior appearance for West Ham, however.

And the former West Brom defender really surprised many of the Hammers fans.

Dawson was strong in the challenge, dominant in the air and he helped keep two of the liveliest strikers in the Premier League quiet all night.

He made five clearances and won three out of four aerial duels (Football Critic).

The 30-year-old was rewarded with the Man of the Match award as well.

David Moyes responded to reporters last night when asked for his opinion on the Watford-owned ace’s debut, as quoted by Football.London:

“Craig Dawson did a great job. Very good but I don’t think anyone should be surprised with that, he is a very good central defender and has been good wherever he has been. I have to say he did great for us, he helped us keep a clean sheet and it is good for him.”

Dawson may well be used intermittently between now and the end of the season. He has undoubtedly proved that he will be useful in specific games against certain teams, however.

Whether West Ham decide to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer, however, remains to be seen.

So far so good though. Craig Dawson was very impressive last night. And he clearly impressed David Moyes.
