Several players have stepped up for West Ham United in recent weeks.
As Nuno Espirito Santo was keen to point out following West Ham’s 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, there are no “individuals” in the team right now.
Indeed, the focus has been on collective improvement, and it’s the team’s success that will either keep West Ham in the Premier League or condemn them to relegation.
Serious question – are you taking a peak Mateus Fernandes or a peak Lucas Paqueta in your dream midfield?!
It would, however, be remiss not to suggest that there aren’t certain individuals who are leading the recent charge.
Mateus Fernandes gets better by the game it seems, while new signings Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe have certainly had an impact.
However, pundit Danny Murphy was keen to talk up a certain Crysencio Summerville.
Danny Murphy hails West Ham star Crysencio Summerville
It feels like a very long time ago now, but Summerville actually went on a goal drought for West Ham that lasted between October 2024 and January 2026.
Those days are gone, however, and Summerville has now scored in five consecutive games for West Ham.
He opened the scoring in West Ham’s victory on Saturday and also played a key role in the second goal with a clever turn to free up Malick Diouf, who crossed to Castellanos.
Reflecting on his performance and his form more generally, Murphy said (via BBC Sport): “They have won three out of four and have all the momentum. Crysencio Summerville is playing out of his skin and Jarrod Bowen is always going to chip in, plus they’ve signed two strikers.
“All of a sudden they look like a team that can score goals and that means you don’t have to rely so heavily on keeping them out the other end.
“However, you’d always rather have the points in the bag than doing the chasing as you can’t have many slip-ups – you have to keep on getting points.”
How has Summerville proved you WRONG? ⚽ 🇳🇱
Be honest, you didn't see this coming…
Nuno Espirito Santo thinks Crysencio Summerville is “amazing”
Only last month, Nuno made a big demand. Indeed, he said he expected more from Summerville, who was yet to really embark on this stunning run of form.
To say the winger has responded to that would be an understatement. In fact, Nuno thinks Summerville is in “amazing” form right now.

It’s difficult to disagree. He looks a cut above a relegation battle right now and while he’s not alone in improving things at West Ham, he has been a standout.
This is undoubtedly the best form of his career to date.
