Paul Scholes absolutely raved about Michail Antonio last night when speaking on BT’s production of the FA Cup clash between Stockport County and West Ham United (Monday January 11th, 19:46).
The 30-year-old Hammers ace is currently working his way back to full fitness.
West Ham need him back fit and firing as soon as possible. With Sebastien Haller having been sold to Ajax, the £7m signing from Nottingham Forest is now the Hammers’ only recognised centre-forward.
David Moyes must be desperate to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes. His squad at the London Stadium is down to the bare bones.
Paul Scholes a huge Michail Antonio fan
One huge positive recently has been getting the former Nottingham Forest man back from injury.
And Paul Scholes told BT Sport just how highly he rates the 30-year-old Hammers attacker:
“Antonio has been a revelation as a centre-forward. It’s probably why they’ve let Haller go. He would be a nightmare to play against for a centre-half, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s physical. And he’s added goals to his game.”
Antonio’s hamstrings have caused him real problems over the past couple of years.
It is an absolute disgrace that the West Ham board have left Moyes with little option other than to rush him back from his spell on the sidelines, however.
The Hammers don’t need to sign one striker this month, we need at least two.
Then there wouldn’t be so much pressure on Moyes to use Michail Antonio week in week out. And that would do wonders for the 30-year-old’s long-term career.
