Paul Merson has made somewhat of a shock prediction for the Newcastle United vs West Ham United clash on Saturday.

The Premier League game at St James’ Park on Saturday evening is an absolutely huge one for both sides, but for very different reasons.

The Toon are sitting in third spot in the table, three points clear of fifth placed Tottenham with a game in hand over the north London club.

Meanwhile, West Ham are sitting in 16th position, one point clear of the drop zone. Most people expect us to get a good hiding on Tyneside. Merson has gone against the grain though…

Paul Merson makes Newcastle vs West Ham prediction

The well-renowned pundit backed the Hammers to pick up what would be a vital point against the Magpies this weekend.

Merson shared why he thinks the game will end 0-0, when writing his regular column for Sportskeeda:

“Newcastle are flying along, but I think this will be a hard game for them. Bruno Guimaraes can’t play this match, and he’s going to be a massive miss. Newcastle were playing mind-blowing football against Southampton in the first 30 minutes, but they were just hanging on in the end. Defensively, Newcastle are very good. West Ham haven’t been great in the Premier League, but they’re always a danger and don’t get blown away. This is a difficult game for both teams, and I’m going with a draw.”

Prediction: Newcastle United 0-0 West Ham United

I would take a point if it was offered now…all day long!

The way that we have played this season, I would not be surprised if we were blown away on Saturday. Having said that, there have been some signs of improvement over the past two games.

All we can do is back the boys and hope that they put in a good performance.
