New West Ham United signings Jack Wilshere and Lucas Perez could be set for a surprise first if they take to the field against Bournemouth this weekend.

The Hammers splashed the cash during the summer.

Manuel Pellegrini was appointed and backed with £100 million of new signings.

Wilshere arrived on a free from the Gunners and Perez was a late addition for £4 million on deadline day.

Both captures have been hailed as the potential bargains of the summer.

And many will hope the pair can build on their existing relationship to shine for West Ham.

‘We’ve never played a game together’

But it may surprise many that should Wilshere and Perez feature against Bournemouth this weekend, it will be the first time they have ever played together.

That’s despite two years together at the Emirates.

However Wilshere is confident they can hit it off in the claret and blue.

And the midfielder told West Ham’s official website Perez could make a big difference.

“(Last season) He (Perez) decided to go to Deportivo and I decided to stay (at Arsenal) and fight for my place, but there was a period of three or four weeks when we were in a group who trained on our own and he has got real quality,” Wilshere told whufc.com.

‘He’s calm, he can finish’

“He’s calm in front of goal, he can finish, he’s got a personality on the pitch, he’s got character and I’m looking forward to finally getting to play alongside him, you know.

“We’ve been teammates, if you like, for the last two and a bit seasons, but we’ve never played a game together so I’m looking forward to it.”

Many fans may have assumed Perez and Wilshere would forge an instantaneous link between midfield and attack.

Perhaps they still will despite this rather surprising stat.

West Ham fans will be wiser come the final whistle against the Cherries on Saturday.
