James Ward-Prowse has told his West Ham teammates what he wants them to do for him against Newcastle United.

West Ham welcome Newcastle United to the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday after superb results in Europe for both clubs this week.

The Hammers are one point and one place above the Magpies in the table and could go level on points with fourth-place if they win.

Newcastle go into the game off the back of one of their best nights of the last 20 years when they beat PSG 4-1 in midweek.

But West Ham also have their tails up thanks to their own result in midweek when they beat Freiburg 2-1 in Germany to set a new English record of 17 games unbeaten in Europe.

That man James Ward-Prowse got yet another assist for the winner in that game, making it eight goal contributions in as many matches for West Ham.

Ward-Prowse was also linked with a move to Newcastle before joining West Ham for a bargain £30m in the summer.

David Moyes and Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe have both been raving about Ward-Prowse ahead of the clash.

While the midfielder’s all-round game has impressed, his obvious threat from set pieces steals the headlines.

He is yet to score one of his trademark direct free-kicks thus far, though. The Hammers star is one away from equalling David Beckham’s record of 18. But he has barely had a chance up to now.

So Ward-Prowse has told his West Ham teammates what he wants them to do for him against Newcastle.

Speaking ahead of the Newcastle clash after laying yet another goal on a plate for a teammate, Ward-Prowse wants West Ham’s attacking stars to win free-kicks around the box, starting against Newcastle.

“It’s an exciting feeling you get taking a corner and you’ve got lads in the middle who are desperate to score and they all come up to me individually and tell me exactly where they want it, so I’ve got four or five different options,” Ward-Prowse told TNT Sports.

“So they all want to score and it’s been a good weapon for us so far this season and hopefully it can continue…

“I’d like to get a few free-kicks maybe around the box. So maybe those lads can repay me in that way! But any way to contribute I’ll keep delivering the balls and hopefully we can keep putting them away.”
