David Moyes says Newcastle are one of the best teams in Europe and raves about Eddie Howe ahead of the West Ham clash.
West Ham welcome Newcastle United to the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday after superb results in Europe for both clubs this week.
The Hammers sit one point and one place above the Magpies and could go level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool with a win.
West Ham beat Freiburg 2-1 in Germany to set a new English record of 17 games unbeaten in Europe.
That run included lifting the club’s first major trophy for over 40 years on that famous night in Prague back in June.
Newcastle fans are dreaming of ending an even longer barren spell and enjoyed one of their best nights of the last 20 years when they beat PSG 4-1 in midweek.
The Hammers may be champions of Europe.
But David Moyes says Newcastle are one of the best teams in Europe and has raved about Eddie Howe ahead of the West Ham clash.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Scot was effusive in his praise of the job Howe has done.
And he genuinely believes West Ham are about to face one of the top sides in all of Europe.
“It (Newcastle’s 4-1 win over PSG) is a night in Europe which will be remembered for so long,” Moyes said on the club’s official website.
“We had a great night here a few years ago against Sevilla. And there are nights in the club’s history like that, and I think Newcastle had that against PSG.
“When you start to get involved in Europe. The Premier League becomes a difficult cycle because of the extra games. I think it is very difficult to explain how tough that is…
“I think Newcastle are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment. There is so much quality in their side and the manager has done such a good job.
“He has steered them into a good organisation and shape and I think they are up with some of the best teams in Europe at the minute.”
Newcastle are without Anthony Gordon (suspension) and injured trio Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock for the game.
West Ham bogeyman Callum WIlson and Joelinton both face late fitness tests for Newcastle.
