David Moyes gets his Everton excuses in early but is fooling nobody as West Ham should be beating Toffees at home if they’re serious about Europe.
West Ham take on David Moyes’ old side Everton looking to get back on track after a poor week.
West Ham’s fine start to the season has hit a bump in the road this week with defeats to Aston Villa and Olympiacos.
So there is a fair amount of pressure on the Hammers and Moyes when Everton come to the London Stadium for the Sunday lunchtime game live on TV.
Everton have improved after a difficult start and Sean Dyche sides have a reputation for being organised and hard-working.

But on paper West Ham must be seeing off teams like the Toffees at home it they are to achieve their ambitions.
The manager, though, has been keen to play down expectations going into the game at the London Stadium.

Ahead of the game the Scot has heaped praise on Dyche and warned fans it will be a tough game for the Hammers to win.
That’s despite the visitors once again finding themselves in and around the relegation mix.
“Everton are a hard nut to crack,” Moyes said.
“They’ve probably played a little bit better away from home this season, so we expect it to be a really tough game.

Is Moyes talking about Ancelotti’s Real Madrid or Dyche’s Everton?
“I don’t see them getting turned over easily, I don’t see teams beating them easily – I see a resilient team who keep at it, and on their day they have players capable of scoring goals.
“We’ve just got ourselves back, we’ll get ourselves ready for Everton. Every Premier League game is difficult – Everton is a tough game – and we’ll approach it the same as we’d approach any other game.
“I think Sean has done a brilliant job, more importantly last season in keeping them in the Premier League. Last year was probably the toughest I can remember in the Premier League regarding the relegation side of the league. We were involved in that for long periods as well.”
Sorry are we talking about Everton or Real Madrid here?
This is very much a case of Moyes trying to play down expectations, particularly his reference to West Ham being involved in last season’s relegation battle with Everton.
That may be a fact but it must also be remembered the Hammers should not have been anywhere near that particular fight.
Fans will be turning up to the game today expecting a vastly improved performance.
That’s regardless of Moyes’ attempts to keep a lid on their expectations.
