Hammers boss David Moyes has dropped a big hint that a duo will start for West Ham in Europe and fans will be buzzing.
West Ham are back in action on Thursday night for their first Europa Conference League group game of the campaign against FCSB.
In many ways it offers Moyes’ side a good opportunity to get the rage and frustration from the debacle at Stamford Bridge out of their system.
West Ham are clear favourites to qualify from Group B having made the semi-finals of last season’s Europa League and off the back of spending over £170m on eight signings this summer.
And it seems £47m worth of those new arrivals will be starting against Steaua Bucharest, who knocked West Ham out of the UEFA Cup in 1999.
Striker Gianluca Scamacca has missed the last two games with illness while Flynn Downes has barely featured since joining the Hammers from Swansea.
But Moyes has dropped a big hint that the duo will start for West Ham in Europe and fans will be buzzing.
It was a huge disappointment that Scamacca missed massive games against Spurs and Chelsea.
And the results of both matches could have been very different had the Italian striker been available.
There was some good news from Moyes’ pre-match press conference ahead of the FCSB clash, though.
It seems Scamacca will be back and starting while the West Ham boss is also mulling giving Downes his first start.
“Scamacca has only just started training but we’re going to try and get him back (for the game), if we can,” Moyes said in his pre-FCSB presser (whufc.com).
“He’s trained today and he’s getting closer to fitness…
“He (Downes) missed out in Viborg but I’m looking at Flynn and thinking this could be a chance to give him a game.
“I’ll look at that closely. It could be a good chance.”
Steaua are struggling so far in this season’s Liga 1. They are no strangers to playing in a big stadium as their home ground is the 55k capacity Arena Nationala.
But their manager Nicolae Dica is hoping West Ham fans pack out the London Stadium as he feels his players deserve to experience such an atmosphere.
