West Ham are going through something of a striker crisis at the moment.
Talisman Marko Arnautovic missed the weekend’s game against Chelsea; his understudy Javier Hernandez is still sidelined with glandular fever.
Lucas Perez was brought in to bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking depth, but the Chilean preferred to field Michail Antonio as a makeshift striker against the Blues.
Summer signing Silva has been in good form for the club’s under 23 side. He netted a hat-trick against Spurs earlier in the season and was inches away from scoring against Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy last week.
With Perez seemingly out of favour and Antonio again failing to impress, he is surely an option Pellegrini must consider; the fans want to see it.
Pellegrini reportedly rejected loan offers for Silva in the summer, which suggests he is a fan. So, with Macclesfield Town at home in the EFL Cup tomorrow and no sign of any returning strikers; what better time to throw Silva in?
Unfortunately, the stars have not quite aligned for Silva. The club’s official website have confirmed that he has a hamstring injury.
There is no word on how long Silva will be out for; but hamstring injuries must be rushed, given their propensity to go again.
That might put the blockers on Silva’s sterling progress so far, and certainly robs him of the ideal chance to shine tomorrow night.
