Brighton boss Graham Potter has delivered some news that will give West Ham United a huge boost ahead of their clash on Sunday.
West Ham were harshly beaten 3-0 by Chelsea last time out.
But a victory over Brighton would see West Ham eclipse the start they made to the 2015/16 Farewell Boleyn season when they went on to record their highest ever Premier League points total.
West Ham boosted as Brighton boss confirms absence of star man Lamptey
Brighton may be struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League but they always give West Ham a tough game.
West Ham – and particularly Aaron Cresswell, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals – will be hugely encouraged, though, after Seagulls boss Potter revealed star man Tariq Lamptey is out of the game.
“Tariq will miss the West Ham game at this stage, apart from that there are no fresh concerns,” Potter told the press ahead of the game (The Argus).
Lamptey has been one of stars of the Premier League since emerging at right back for Brighton.
Speedy powerhouse will be a big miss for Seagulls and Hammers trio will be relieved
Blessed with unbelievable pace, Lamptey has fast been making a name for himself as one of the best right-backs and right wing-backs in the top flight.
Not only he is a strong and formidable defender but he also gets forward at will and causes problems for the opposition’s full-back.
Cresswell is exposed in a back four – as evidenced during the defeat to Chelsea – so he will be mightily relieved Lamptey is not available.
Absence is good news for Fornals, Benrahma and Cresswell
Fornals is not afraid to do more than his fair share of defensive work out of position on the left wing. But his lack of pace would also have been exposed by the explosive Lamptey.
Benrahma could come back into the West Ham starting line-up.
And he too will be grateful as getting past Lamptey is no easy task.
Ironically former West Ham target Joel Veltman will continue in Lamptey’s place for the game.
West Ham have no fresh injury concerns.
But Moyes must decide whether to bring talisman Michail Antonio back into the mix after his latest spell out through injury.
