Gianluca Scamacca has suffered an injury leaving £95m worth of West Ham talent in the treatment room for the World Cup break.

David Moyes has been without £17.5m summer signing Maxwel Cornet since he injured his calf in West Ham’s win over Wolves at the start of October.

After suffering a setback in his recovery, Moyes said the Ivory Coast star should return after the World Cup break, meaning he would have been out for three months.

Cornet was joined on the sidelines by £29m defender Kurt Zouma after he pulled up with concerns over his longstanding knee issues in the defeat to Leicester.

Moyes revealed Zouma had his knee “flushed” by West Ham’s medical team before the match after it had looked stiff in the warm-up.

There has been no update since, so fans will be hoping it is nothing too serious and that the break may have come at just the right time.

Another summer signing, £13.5m Emerson Palmieri, is also injured having had to withdraw himself from selection for international duty with Italy after breaking his nose.

His fellow West Ham summer signing and Italy teammate Gianluca Scamacca was called up for the Azzurri’s friendly matches against Albania and Austria.

But now he too has now withdrawn from the squad according to TMW.

As reported by TMW, Scamacca has left Italy’s Coverciano camp and will not be available for the friendlies over the next week.

The West Ham striker’s injury is described as a ‘minor physical issue’ and states that he will use this six-week break to reach full fitness.

It seems the mini spate of injuries to some key players has come at the right time for West Ham.

Let’s just hope they are all fully fit and ready to fire for the Hammers when the Premier League restarts on Boxing Day at league leaders Arsenal.
