Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has provided a big injury update on one of his key players ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Ham United.
The Villans are set to welcome the Hammers to Villa Park tomorrow for the 4:30pm kick-off.
West Ham are in the midst of a fine run of form. David Moyes’s men have won all their games since returning from the last international break including beating Manchester City on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are really struggling at the moment and have lost their last three Premier League outings.
West Ham can cement their place inside the top four with a win tomorrow whilst Villa can climb up to 11th in the table if they beat us.
Dean Smith provides big injury update ahead of West Ham clash
The Aston Villa boss spoke to reporters yesterday and provided an injury update.
Smith responded when asked about Leon Bailey, as quoted by Villa’s official website:
“We’re having to manage him carefully. He came here with no pre-season and an injury from playing international football. He got injured in the Everton game and we had to wrap him up in cotton wool, so to speak. He got a good 45 minutes against Arsenal and he needed that. He was blowing, but he’s had a good week’s training. We’ll assess tomorrow whether he’s ready to start or not.”
The 24-year-old joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer for around £25 million (BBC).
He has made a fine start to life in the Premier League with one goal and two assists to his name in just four games so far.
His season was disrupted after he picked up a muscular injury during Villa’s win over Everton in September.
Bailey only returned to action last Friday with a 45 minute cameo against Arsenal.
Following Smith’s comments, it’s unlikely that he will be ready to play from he start against West Ham tomorrow.
And if he doesn’t play, the Hammers players will be very happy about that.
