West Ham United boss David Moyes has dropped a major hint on whether Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek will play against Manchester United tomorrow night.

Mixed FA Cup memories for West Ham against Red Devils

Paolo Di Canio ignored Fabian Barthez’s gamesmanship to secure a famous win back in 2001.

Two years later Man United got revenge, taking advantage of the hapless Gary Breen to thrash the Hammers 6-0 at the Theatre of Dreams.

Fast forward to 2016 and West Ham were left feeling sick and bitter after two horrendous decisions denied them a trip to Wembley to face Everton in the semi-finals.

Dimitri Payet had scored one of the goals of the season to give West Ham the lead. And the French magician was then denied a blatant penalty which would have secured a deserved West Ham win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

To rub salt in the wound, Bastian Schweinsteiger then clearly impeded Darren Randolph for Man United’s equaliser and Louis van Gaal’s side triumphed in the replay at Upton Park.

Hammers get Soucek red card boost but Moyes hints he and Antonio may not feature

West Ham go to Man United boosted by the news that top scorer Tomas Soucek is available after his ridiculous red card in the draw at Fulham was rescinded.

But Moyes appeared to suggest he may not use Soucek, who – along with a number of his teammates – looked tired in the draw with Fulham.

“If Tomas was missing for any game it would be a blow,” Moyes told The Sun ahead of the Man United game.

“Whether we chose to play him against United or not is a different decision.”

Moyes also delivered an update on the availability of the club’s only senior striker Antonio (

And it makes concerning reading for West Ham fans dreaming of FA Cup glory who are desperate to see the Scot field the strongest possible team.

Update will worry West Ham fans and prove a potential big boost for Man United

That’s after Moyes dropped a major hint over his availability for the long trip up north following his withdrawal at Craven Cottage with ‘fatigue’.

“He’s still fatigued so it’ll be a close call whether he makes it or not,” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference (

“I’ll see how he is today. We’ll need to assess him tomorrow to see if he’s able to play or not.

“I think we’ve picked strong teams against Stockport and Doncaster. We’re certainly not picking a weakened team.

“We may have one or two changes through injury or suspension, whatever it may be, but we plan to go there with a really strong team and if we can get through to the next round of the FA Cup.”

Moyes made multiple changes to his side for the fourth round game against Doncaster. And it paid off with a superb performance in a 4-0 win.

But that was – with respect to Doncaster – against a League One side, not Premier League title hopefuls Manchester United.

If Antonio does not play then Moyes is likely to put Andriy Yarmolenko up front.

It is a position the Ukraine star has done well in against lower league opposition. But he has failed to shine against fellow top tier sides as yet and fans remain unconvinced he is the answe.

Supporters would much prefer to see a debut for Mipo Odubeko against the club he left to join the Hammers.
