BT Sport has made a surprise claim that West Ham are missing a key star for the game against Chelsea despite a positive David Moyes update.
West Ham take on their fierce London rivals in the lunchtime game knowing a much-improved performance is needed.
The Hammers have faltered of late after setting very high standards over the last two years.
But performances in defeats to Wolves and Man City and the draw with Brighton have been below par.
Against league leaders Chelsea West Ham will need everyone on their A game.
Moyes had a positive update for fans in his pre-match press conference when he revealed key star Aaron Cresswell had trained with the team following his collision with a post which saw him miss the Brighton game.
In the end Cresswell’s absence proved costly. Brighton grabbed a late equaliser when Tariq Lamptey took advantage of yet more lacklustre defending from Arthur Masuaku down West Ham’s left to set up Neal Maupay’s superb strike.
Cresswell is also key when it comes to his deliveries, particularly from set pieces.
So it will come as a huge blow for the Hammers if BT Sport’s claims are true that Cresswell will be missing again for the visit of Chelsea.
BT Sport makes surprise claim that West Ham are missing key star for Chelsea despite positive David Moyes update
“Moyes is likely to still be without Aaron Cresswell for the match against Chelsea while Angelo Ogbonna remains sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury,” BT Sport states.
That’s despite Moyes suggesting Cresswell will be fit to return in his pre-match presser.
“Aaron Cresswell’s back in training so we’ll have a look at that,” Moyes told the press.
If BT Sport’s claim is correct then youngster Ben Johnson will likely keep his place in the side deputising for Cresswell at left-back.
Chelsea will be missing N’Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic for the trip to West Ham. But Thomas Tuchel is boosted by the return of Reece James, Jorginho and Timo Werner.
