Why West Ham should only appoint Scott Parker under one strict condition

West Ham have yet to decide whether Nuno Espirito Santo will be staying or going this week.

Nuno oversaw an improvement in results in the second half of the season, but it was still not enough to avoid relegation.

The West Ham board appear to be torn over whether to give him the opportunity to redeem himself in the Championship.

Scott Parker has already been identified as a potential replacement for Nuno if the Portuguese were to leave.

Parker would only be an excellent appointment for the Hammers under one strict condition that he may not accept.

Imagine YOU are in control! Who are you hiring to replace Nuno? 🤔

There is only one scenario where Scott Parker makes sense for West Ham

Scott Parker would be an obvious choice to replace Nuno, given his Championship experience and his connection to West Ham.

The former Hammers midfielder has achieved promotion to the Premier League with three different clubs (Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley).

However, the glaring issue with Parker’s managerial CV is his shocking record in the Premier League after earning promotion.

Parker’s Fulham won just five games in the 2020/21 season, despite having several quality players, such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The 45-year-old managed just four Premier League games with Bournemouth before he was sacked after a 9-0 defeat to Liverpool.

He also struggled with Burnley this season, winning four of his 34 Premier League games before he departed in April.

Parker has only won a total of 10 matches across his three spells in the top tier of English football, with 22 draws and 44 defeats.

What’s your early prediction for West Ham’s 2026/27 Championship campaign? 👀

This suggests Parker would not be able to keep West Ham in the Premier League if he achieved promotion next season.

However, there is an argument to be made that the Hammers should not be concerned about the top flight.

Their top priority should be the 2026/27 Championship campaign, for which Parker may be the best available option.

The perfect solution would be to give Parker a one-year contract before hiring someone else for the Premier League.

If he does not agree to those strict terms, then he is probably not the man for the job, given his underwhelming record at the highest level.

Perhaps it would make more sense to take a risk on an up-and-coming manager like Craig Bellamy with no Premier League failures.
