West Ham have been heavily linked with a move to sign talented Lille striker Jonathan David over the past year or so.
TEAMtalk and The Guardian both claimed back in January that David Moyes wanted to bring the 22-year-old forward to the London Stadium.

The striker, who’s scored 20 goals in 30 international games for Canada, is a hugely exciting young talent.

David Moyes chose not to sign the Canadian in the end and opted to bring Gianluca Scamacca to the London Stadium instead.
Now, we’re delighted with the signing of the Italian but it must be said, the addition of David as well would have been a major statement from the Hammers…
West Ham made a mistake by not signing Lille striker Jonathan David
£45 million is obviously a serious amount of money, but the Hammers should have paid it for the 22-year-old forward, in my opinion.
David is a truly sensational young talent.
He possesses electric pace and is a real live-wire. The Lille ace is a good finisher as well. He bagged 19 goals in 48 games for Lille last season (Transfermarkt).
The Canadian would have been an incredible addition for West Ham. His pace, finishing and movement would have added so much to Moyes’s attacking ranks.
Let’s not forget as well, he is only 22! David is still in the very early stages of his career and he has so much talent and potential.

Moyes may well now regret not having pushed harder to sign Jonathan David back in the summer, or even the January window.
David on fire
The Canadian has begun the 2022/23 campaign in scintillating form for Lille. He has four goals and two assists to his name in seven Ligue 1 outings so far this term (Transfermarkt).
He really looks the part and seems to have bulked up during the off-season as well.
It will be interesting to see how many goals for Lille the 22-year-old ends up with this season. He is seemingly destined for a huge transfer away from the Ligue 1 outfit next summer.
And West Ham boss David Moyes may well end up regretting the fact that he decided against bringing Lille striker Jonathan David to the London Stadium.
