West Ham fans will be furious with a picture that has emerged showing what Jesse Lingard did just before Declan Rice took his penalty on Sunday against Nottingham Forest.

Forest beat the Hammers 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon and it was a gutting outcome for the Hammers fans and of course, David Moyes.

Meanwhile, Lingard would have been buzzing with the win. The 29-year-old spent a hugely successful four months at the London Stadium on loan during the 2020/21 season. He returned to Manchester United after that though and proceeded to warm the bench for the entire season.

Surprisingly Jesse Lingard decided to move to Nottingham Forest this summer, rather than return to West Ham.

Michail Antonio believes that that is because Jesse would have been guaranteed regular first-team football at the City Ground – something that would not have been the case at the London Stadium.

Either way, the Hammers fans were not happy with Lingard. And that anger will increase ten-fold now…

The 29-year-old was snapped pointing to Forest stopper Dean Henderson in the direction where he thought Dec would put the penalty:

The bottom line is that Lingard is a Forest player now. So there’s nothing wrong with what he did. Nobody can blame him for trying to help his team get the three points.

It was just a huge mistake allowing Rice to take the penalty.

Said Benrahma should been handed the ball in my opinion. He has a great record from the spot with eight scored for eight attempts, including last season’s penalty shoot-out against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, (Transfermarkt).

Rice doesn’t have to apologise for missing the penalty. It happens to everyone. The bottom line is that he shouldn’t be our spot-kick taker.

Benrahma has to be that man now.

Jesse Lingard knew where Rice was going to put his penalty. And that ended up costing West Ham at least a point against Nottingham Forest.
