The Queens dies at 96 was the news that rang around the world last night just before West Ham took to the pitch for our clash with FCSB.
The mood inside the London Stadium was understandably sombre after the Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral.
The Queen died at 96, having served on the throne for 70 years of her life. She served with real dedication and selflessness, and was a constant during uncertain times in so many of our lives.
The West Ham players had a job to do last night, in spite of the sad events that preceded the game.

And in fairness to David Moyes’s side, they got the job done in the end. The Hammers fans deserve a lot of credit as well for giving the Queen a really moving send off prior to kick-off…
West Ham fans pay tribute as Queen dies at 96
The country was rocked at just after 6pm when the news broke that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.
Her family were obviously in mourning and so were the British public as a whole, as well as many parts of the world.
It felt surreal in all fairness. She has been a part of so many peoples’ lives for so long.

For context, she has served on the throne for 28% of the time since America gained independence in 1776!
So many people were deeply saddened after the Queen’s passing last night.
The West Ham fans responded in fine style, by giving the Queen a truly heartwarming send off:
West Ham United are a proper club with proper football fans. And that send off for Lilibet last night proved it.
As the country enters a period of national mourning, Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy will live on.
The Queen dies at 96. Thank you Your Majesty for your incredible service. And we’re very proud at the way in which the West Ham fans gave her the send-off that she so rightly deserved prior to kick-off last night.
Rest in Peace Lizzie.
