Watford man warns West Ham about Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr amid double move reports

Hammers News’s Watford man warns West Ham about Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr amid double move reports.

West Ham have been heavily linked with Watford duo Dennis and Sarr as David Moyes looks to make a host of additions in a big rebuild this summer.

West Ham’s hopes of signing Dennis – who scored 10 goals and laid on six assists in 33 games for relegated Watford last season – were boosted recently when a report from Football League World claimed an ownership issue would work in Moyes’s favour.

West Ham are also allegedly lining up a £25 million bid for Dennis’s Watford teammate Sarr.

The Mirror (print edition June 12th, page 72) claim the Hammers could swoop for the wide attacker, who can – like Dennis – also play as a striker.

West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh claim Moyes is genuinely interested in the potential double swoop on Watford.

The Athletic say West Ham have ‘intimated that they are prepared to pay £18m plus £2m in add-ons’ for five-cap Nigeria international Dennis.

Many West Ham fans have welcomed the links to Dennis and Sarr. Particularly after Dennis scored an impressive solo goal against the Hammers in a 4-1 defeat at Vicarage Road.

But Hammers News’ Watford man has warned West Ham about Dennis and Sarr amid the double move reports.

Speaking to Hammers News about the pair, our man in the know at the Hornets, Anthony Simmonds, has sounded a word of warning to West Ham over the duo.

“Dennis started the season on fire looking like he was a really good player, full of confidence and skilful and was getting some goals,” Simmonds told Hammers News.

“That lasted until around Christmas – not sure if he got the hump as Watford stopped him going to the African Nations or could be with the managerial changes, but from then on he seemed like he had lost interest or could even have been a lack of confidence due to us not winning games.

“But from then on for me he was a different player.

“He is a skilful player with good feet but kept over-playing it, doing too much trying to do that extra skill or even go for a cheeky nutmeg instead doing a simple pass. He did also miss quite a few easy finishes and when he was defending he would switch off and not track players or would try and take people on instead of playing an easy ball out.

“I remember a few occasions where he cost us goals by not doing the right thing.

“If he does go to West Ham for £20m I will be very happy with that as a Watford man and I don’t think it will be an upgrade on anyone you currently have.

“There are question marks over whether there is an ego or attitude problem but you never know at West Ham as he will be with better players.

“I thought Craig Dawson had a shocker of a season when we were relegated last time and then he went to West Ham and has been great for you!

“There has been talk among fans who spoke to players after the last game of the season at Chelsea and they were saying the atmosphere at the training ground had become toxic with claims that Dennis and Sarr would turn up, not really talk to anyone, do what they need to do and then go home. So they are no Mark Noble!”

Some of Simmonds’s assessment is extremely concerning indeed. Moyes simply will not stand for players over-playing or failing to pull their weight defensively for the team.

Just ask Said Benrahma.

If West Ham do move for Dennis and Sarr we can only hope working with a taskmaster manager like Moyes will be the discipline they need.

Moyes has, more often than not, got it right in the transfer market since his return to West Ham.

West Ham fans will also hope – as Simmonds saliently points out – that playing in a stronger side with better players will see Dennis and Sarr raise their levels and mature as professionals.
