David Moyes and Frank Lampard homecoming swap talk looks inevitable as the threat of the axe looms large over the West Ham and Everton managers.

There was a time, not too long ago, that Hammers boss Moyes was being heavily linked with a return to former club Everton.

Moyes has admitted he came close to going back to Goodison Park before taking over at West Ham for a second time (talkSPORT).

And after a superb 18 months back in east London – and with his contract running down – Moyes was yet again linked with a Toffees return (The Mirror).

There are many links and parallels between West Ham and Everton right now. The most obvious being the fact both clubs are seriously struggling with their managers under severe pressure.

Former West Ham academy graduate and star Frank Lampard is clinging on to his job at Everton after a dismal 4-1 home defeat to Brighton on Tuesday night.

If you believe what you read Moyes is in a similar situation at West Ham off the back of five consecutive Premier League defeats, including a 2-0 home loss to Brentford last time out.

It is Leeds away next for the Hammers on Wednesday night as speculation continues to swirl around Moyes’ position.

So Moyes and Lampard homecoming swap talk seems inevitable as the axe threat looms over the West Ham and Everton managers.

It has been debated in West Ham circles ever since he became a manager as to whether Hammers fans would welcome Lampard as their boss one day.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since his playing days where Lampard and West Ham fans played out a bitter relationship every time they would meet.

That was based on Lampard being a success as a manager, though. Imagine the reaction were West Ham to bring Lampard home off the back of being sacked by another struggling, under performing team.

On the flip side, many Everton fans made it very clear they did not want Moyes back when he was linked with a return in recent seasons, an attitude which baffled the likes of Jamie Carragher (TBR) and Alan Brazil (talkSPORT).

Given the woeful seasons being endured by both clubs, theoretically Moyes and Lampard could find themselves out of a job at the same time.

And that would almost certainly lead to inevitable media talk of returns to their former clubs.

The likes of talkSPORT claim overnight that Lampard is on the brink of the sack at Everton.

At West Ham, Moyes has reportedly been given a three-game stay of execution – starting at Leeds on Wednesday night.

The likes of Marcelo Bielsa, Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel have already been ruled out of the running for the West Ham job.

Could Lampard end up at West Ham and Moyes back at Everton?

Stranger things have happened. And we might not have to wait too long to find out.
