The Algerian international has switched from nine after Michail Antonio took that shirt number.
The 25-year-old has always wanted to wear number 22 as it was the shirt number worn by his late father.

But who has worn the number 22 previously for West Ham? Many of the names of the list will leave some Hammers fans saying, ‘Who?’.
Said Benrahma number 22: His 15 predecessors at West Ham
Colin Foster
Adrian Whitbread
Craig Forrest
Brent Rahim
Les Ferindand
Matthew Kilgallon
Andy Melville
Elliot Ward
Tony Stokes
Manuel da Costa
Henri Lansbury
Jussi Jääskeläinen
Angelo Ogbonna
Sam Byram
Sebastien Haller

Jääskeläinen wasn’t bad but he hardly set the world alight.

Hopefully Benrahma can change all that. The 25-year-old showed signs at the end of last season that he’s just warming up. And he looked very bright against Reading in midweek.
