West Ham United somehow managed to lose to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
Graham Potter was visibly seething with anger after West Ham conceded two late goals to lose to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Potter let rip at his his West Ham players after the way in which they folded late on in the game against Brighton.
Goals from Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek saw the Hammers battle back from one goal down to lead Brighton 2-1 with around 10 minutes left to play.
However, it was very much a case of the same old story for West Ham, as our defence parted like the Red Sea on two occasions.
The Seagulls ran out as 3-2 winners in the end, leaving Potter, the West Ham players and the fans hugely frustrated.
However, one player in particular seems to have escaped criticism after his poor performance.
Lucas Paqueta escaped criticism after shambolic showing for West Ham vs Brighton
Hammers midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been quite simply awful for us this season.
In all fairness to him, the Brazilian has had a lot of off-field problems rumbling on in the background.
Paqueta faces a lifetime ban if he is found guilty of the spot-fixing charges that have been levelled against him.
However, Potter needs to be strong enough to drop him. Paqueta isn’t picking the team after all.
The former Lyon man was utterly dreadful during our defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Paqueta had two unsuccessful first touches and was dispossessed two times (Who Scored).
The 27-year-old was lackadaisical in possession once again and weak in the challenge, and he has clearly become a big hindrance to the West Ham team.
Again though, that’s on Potter for starting him every week.
What next for Potter and West Ham
The Hammers head coach made a big mistake by dropping Niclas Fullkrug after the German told some home truths about our deficiencies as a team last week.
Potter clearly wanted to lay down a marker and send a message that he is ruthless.
However, his decision had the opposite effect. By dropping Fullkrug, Potter sent out the message that he will accept mediocrity.
If anything, he should have started the German so that the rest of his underperforming squad knew that he will not accept the standards that they’ve served up this season.
Things are looking bleak at West Ham right now, and Potter looked like a defeated man during his post-match press conference on Saturday.
That’s not great is it, considering the fact that he’s only been in the job for three months.
