Nuno Espirito Santo’s greatest West Ham triumph proves how much has changed since Graham Potter

West Ham have looked like a completely different team under Nuno Espirito Santo compared to Graham Potter’s tenure.

Potter was sacked in September after winning just six of his 23 Premier League games in charge of the Hammers.

Nuno did not get off to a flying start either, but his side have picked up a remarkable 15 points in their last nine league matches.

However, the Portuguese manager’s biggest achievement has been turning around an off-field issue that Potter created.

Nuno Espirito Santo has won over fans after Graham Potter lost them

Most West Ham fans had become either disinterested or frustrated – or a mix of both – while Potter was in the dugout.

The Hammers were playing an uninspiring style of football in possession while still conceding too many goals at the back.

This gave Nuno a major problem to solve, which was arguably as important as correcting the players’ mistakes on the pitch.

For West Ham to escape relegation, he needed to get the fans back on side – a test he has passed with flying colours.

Hammers supporters have now gone from disliking several players to showing their full support both at the ground and online.

Even the much-maligned atmosphere at the London Stadium has drastically changed recently.

So, while Nuno’s main focus is getting results, he also deserves so much credit for transforming the feeling around the club.
