West Ham signed Frederik Alves from Silkeborg for just £1 million in January 2021 (WHUFC.com).
However, the now 23-year-old didn’t play a single game for the West Ham senior team, and David Moyes moved him on to Brondby a year later for the same fee that he signed him for.

Frederik Alves certainly had talent. During his loan spell with Sunderland, the then Black Cats manager Lee Johnson absolutely raved about him.

However, the young Dane was clearly not cut out to make it with the Hammers, or in the English game for that matter.
He’s now plying his trade back in his homeland, and that in itself proves that he was nowhere near ready to be anywhere near the Hammers’ first-team squad…
West Ham boss David Moyes got it absolutely spot on by selling Frederik Alves
The 23-year-old centre-back has been with Brondby for the last 18 months, and I think it’s really telling that no big clubs have come in for him.
Alves was far too lightweight for the Premier League, and Moyes clearly knew what he was doing by selling him in January 2022.

Sometimes it’s easy to hold onto young players for too long, especially the ones with certain qualities that make you think they’ll hit the big time one day.
I actually thought he looked like the real deal when I watched him in action for the youth team.
David Moyes got the decision to move Frederik Alves on from West Ham absolutely spot on though.
And the Scot has proven once again that he knows more than the average armchair football fan, myself included!!
