Majorly concerning stat proves West Ham are getting January transfer business all wrong

West Ham United are in a truly miserable state right now.

Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Graham Potter back in September but as things stand, he hasn’t made the impact that was expected of him.

West Ham are currently sitting four points adrift of safety in the Premier League table and the worst thing about their current situation is that the players seem to have checked out.

In fact, it was claimed that the West Ham players weren’t giving 100 per cent during their defeat to Wolves, and that’s unforgivable.

What would YOUR ideal January transfer window look like? 💰

And which changes would you make to our XI?

It’s little wonder why the Hammers are in such a sorry state.

The quality simply isn’t there right now and more concerningly, neither is any kind of application from the players.

It’s clear to see that Nuno needs to make a whole host of new signings in the January transfer window.

The good news is that the West Ham board are making transfer moves early, rather than waiting until the last couple of days of the window.

However, are they getting their priorities all wrong?

Brazilian striker Pablo Felipe has already joined the Hammers, while a deal for Valentin Castellanos appears to be very close to getting done.

There is no doubt that the Hammers need attacking reinforcements.

West Ham simply cannot rely on Callum Wilson as their only out-and-out number nine between now and the end of the season.

However, it’s fair to argue that the Hammers are getting all of their January transfer window business wrong so far.

Nuno’s side have been leaking goals left, right and centre this season.

The likes of Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos are simply not good enough to be anywhere near the Hammers starting XI.

So with that in mind, why on earth are West Ham not frantically searching for a couple of new centre-backs?

In fact, why haven’t the club signed at least one central defender already?

Their survival will be totally dependent on the team’s ability to tighten up defensively, and the fact that Nuno appears to be prioritising the signings of strikers over defenders is a big concern.

Stat proves why West Ham should be focusing attention elsewhere

The Hammers must be a joy to play against right now, what with their porous defence parting like the Red Sea regularly.

Amazingly, West Ham have kept just ONE clean sheet in their last 22 games in all competitions.

If you could replace Nuno with one out-of-work manager, who are you picking?

And why?

That is simply unacceptable, whatever level of football you’re playing.

It’s not just the centre-backs who are at fault in all fairness, as bad as they have undoubtedly been.

West Ham as a team simply do not defend from the front, and that means that their already woefully inept centre-backs are often overly-exposed.

First things first, though.

Nuno needs to ship out the likes of Kilman and Mavropanos and sign some centre-backs who can actually defend.

Perhaps then they will stand a chance of avoiding relegation.

What the West Ham fans would give to have Craig Dawson back at the club right now!
