West Ham star Flynn Downes says he feels like he’s been ‘hit by a bus’ after a nasty clash with teammate Craig Dawson.

There was a big hearts in mouths moment for West Ham and manager David Moyes during the 2-1 Europa Conference League win over Anderlecht on Thursday night.

Star defender Dawson was rested for the game.

But he was called into action in the first half when he came on a substitute for the injured Angelo Ogbonna.

As if losing Ogbonna was not bad enough, Moyes then saw Dawson pick up an injury too.

Young midfielder Downes was absolutely brilliant once again – earning his third man of the match award in as many starts in Europe.

There was an unfortunate moment with around 20 minutes remaining when Dawson and Downes collided and both went down.

If you were going to pick who would come off worse in a collision between lithe Downes and juggernaut Dawson, it would almost certainly be the former Swansea man.

But it was Downes who stayed on the pitch as Dawson was forced off with what Moyes hopes is just a dead leg.

The new fan favourite midfield ace did not get off scot-free, though.

West Ham star Downes says he feels like he’s been ‘hit by a bus’ after the nasty clash with teammate Dawson.

“Corr, do you know what I didn’t hear him (Dawson) coming,” Downes told talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams.

“If I heard his shout, I’d have been on the bench I’ll be honest!

“Yea, I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus, I wonder how I’m going to feel tomorrow morning, but we move!”

Move indeed, Downes needed to move out of Dawson’s way!

It says a lot about the type of player and character Downes is that he dusted himself down after his collision with West Ham’s man mountain and finished the game.
