Declan Rice, Lucas Paqueta, Alphonse Areola, Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd were selected for England, Brazil, France, Germany and Morocco respectively.

There would have been a lot more Hammers players out in Qatar, had the likes of Italy, Czech Republic, Ivory Coast and Algeria qualified for the tournament.
Each country received compensation from their respective governing bodies for releasing their players to travel out to the Middle East for five or six weeks last winter.

West Ham receive surprise £735k FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 bonus
FIFA released a detailed document highlighting how much money each individual club received for sending their players out to Qatar.
The Hammers have been paid $960,000 – or £735,000.

That is a nice little sum isn’t it. Whilst £735k doesn’t seem like a lot of money in this day and age, it will cover Lucas Paqueta’s wages for five weeks!
Every little helps as the saying goes!
The main takeaway from this is how many international players we have at West Ham now. That certainly wasn’t the case in the past.
The Hammers’ representation at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was really impressive. And as mentioned earlier, we could have had even more players out there, had their respective nations qualified!
Despite what some people might be saying, these are very good times indeed to be a West Ham fan.
