Alphonse Areola will surely move to West Ham United on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Areola joined West Ham on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper currently earns £120k-a-week and the Hammers have an option to buy him for £10 million in the summer (The Daily Mail).
David Moyes has utilised the Frenchman primarily as our cup keeper this season. He has played second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski in the league but it’s clear to see that he is being primed to take over from the Pole as West Ham’s number one goalkeeper next term.
There have been concerns that the 6ft 5in stopper’s wages could scupper a move to the London Stadium. The Hammers just need to pay him what he’s worth though.
Areola is a top-class goalkeeper and he can be our number one stopper for the next seven or eight years.
One worry for West Ham fans is that Areola will surely demand to be a regular starter at the London Stadium next season with the World Cup in Qatar on the horizon. It appears as though he has just been given the reassurances he needs though…
West Ham will surely sign Areola permanently
Whilst £120k-a-week sounds like a lot of money, it actually a pretty average wage in the modern game.
And added to that, The Daily Mail reckon that PSG are prepared to subsidise some of those wages in order to ensure that his permanent move to West Ham goes through this summer.
And now there is some even better news.
The 29-year-old has been selected in the France squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures (WHUFC.com).
It is proof that Didier Deschamps does not view regular first-team football as a prerequisite for selection for the national team.
And that should give Areola confidence that moving to West Ham rather than Fulham, who are also interested in his services, is a no-brainer in the summer.
Signing the Frenchman permanently will be hugely important for the Hammers.
A West Ham team with Areola as our number one next season will be far stronger than it was this term.
