Everton were sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table before the weekend’s round of fixtures. A win against Newcastle would have kept them there. But they were undone by two goals from Magpies hitman Callum Wilson. And West Ham will surely now regret not signing the 28-year-old.

Sky Sports claimed in July that Hammers boss David Moyes wanted to bring Wilson to the London Stadium from Bournemouth.
But the Daily Mail suggested that the four-capped England international striker chose to join Newcastle instead of West Ham.
Wilson ended up moving to St James’ Park for £20 million (BBC). And the early signs are that he will be worth every penny for the Toon.
The 28-year-old has scored six goals in eight games for Newcastle so far (Transfermarkt). He looks lively, extremely fit and vey much at the peak of his powers.
How West Ham could have done with Wilson right now. With Michail Antonio out injured, Sebastien Haller has been tasked with filling in up front.
And the Frenchman is still yet to convince in the claret and blue. Callum Wilson is a proven Premier League goalscorer. The 28-year-old is showing already what he can do if given the right service. And he surely would have flourished alongside the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma at West Ham.
Wilson was a constant menace for Newcastle against Everton yesterday. He led the line with aplomb and showed what it takes to be a lone frontman in the modern day game.
£20 million would have been a small price to pay for the clinical goalscorer. And Newcastle’s gain is already proving to be West Ham’s loss unfortunately.
