Claret and Hugh have claimed that Ryan Fredericks’ late substitute appearance against Chelsea on Monday night was purely down to the right-back’s appearance bonus clause in his contract.

The Hammers lost 3-0 to the Blues and the scoreline flattered Frank Lampard’s team.

When the game was over and out of sight, David Moyes chose to bring on Ryan Fredericks in place of Jarrod Bowen in the 90th minute.

At the time it seemed like a strange substitution to make.

It would have been understandable had the Scot decide to make it after 75 or 80 minutes in order to rest Jarrod Bowen. Doing it in the 90th minute, however made no sense whatsover.

Claret and Hugh have cleared things up, however.

The West Ham insiders claim that Ryan Fredericks was only brought on in order to ensure that he picked up an appearance bonus for the game.

It does seem strange that that would have been the case, however. If Moyes has made the decision off his own back, it will surely infuriate the Hammers owners, given the financial turmoil we seem to be in as a football club.

It will be interesting to see how Moyes utilises the 28-year-old over the course of the Christmas period.

If Ryan Fredericks isn’t given any minutes whatsoever, it may well indicate that the owners have had a word in the Scot’s ear.

Only time will tell.
