The 28-year-old midfielder had his contract terminated at the London Stadium in October having spent an unsuccessful two years with the Hammers.
Wilshere joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018. But he went on to make just 18 appearances for the east London outfit as injuries continued to wreak havoc with his career.
It was obvious that the 34-capped England international didn’t have much of a future under David Moyes. So his contract being terminated by mutual consent was the right decision all round.
Since Wilshere left West Ham, however, he hasn’t stopped moaning about his lack of game-time at the London Stadium.
Perhaps if he was fit things would have been a lot different. But the bottom line is he wasn’t. We were paying him £100k-a-week to jump out of washing machines. It really was a farcical situation in the end. And as harsh as it sounds, we are better off without him.
Wilshere spoke on the Super 6 podcast the other night, and suggested that he would be silly to sign for a club in a similar position to West Ham now:
“With my experience now, I’d be silly to sign for a team in a similar position to West Ham. When there is a relegation battle, teams want to nick a point, nick a goal and try and defend. That’s not the type of player I am. I want to enjoy my football.”
And some Hammers fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to Wilshere’s remarks…
