West Ham fans call on David Moyes to drop star for Jesse Lingard against Aston Villa despite midfielder having played just twice in six months

It is easy to see why West Ham United’s move to sign Jesse Lingard on an expensive loan deal from Manchester United has left some fans baffled.

Euro giants want to offload West Ham target who has just snubbed Newcastle, Moyes must pounce

Lingard may be a decent player, especially for a club like West Ham.

But he has played just twice in the last six months. And the 28-year-old has made only 11 Premier League and cup appearances in the last 18 months.

Some West Ham fans puzzled by Lingard signing

And that just serves to make the Lingard move even more puzzling.

He was registered too late to face Liverpool.

Lingard is cup-tied, so even if West Ham beat Manchester United in the next round he won’t be able to feature thereafter.

And he cannot play against his parent club in the league game in March.

So that means if fit and available every week the most he could play is 16 games.

Lingard will surely be nowhere near match fit so is likely to start life at West Ham on the bench too.

Despite all of that, though, West Ham fans have called on David Moyes to bring him straight into the action against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

And many seem to want Pablo Fornals to be the one who makes way.

But many call for Moyes to drop Fornals for loanee after Liverpool defeat

But beyond perhaps Craig Dawson, who did?

Fornals has been a key component in Moyes’s side as they have made their best start to a season for 35 years.

He was one of West Ham’s best players in the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace less than a week ago.

Now many want to see him hooked for Lingard, who West Ham won’t even have the chance to sign permanently in the summer as he plans on returning to Man United to fight for his place.

Lingard has more pace and mobility than Fornals. So long term the Spaniard looks to be the player most under threat from the Red Devils midfielder’s arrival.

Can Lingard really just step straight in against strong Villa team after just two games in six months?

Whether he can just step straight into Premier League action against a Villa side who are enjoying their own superb season remains to be seen.

Here are a selection of comments from some West Ham fans on dropping Lingard for Fornals on Wednesday.
