Neil Warnock says Michail Antonio 'hasn't got a clue what he's doing' and that's what makes him so effective

Controversial Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock claims Michail Antonio ‘hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing’.

West Ham striker target ranked fifth most improved player in Europe

Warnock is never shy in coming forward with his views.

West Ham fans know all about that from the Carlos Tevez saga when Warnock was managing Sheffield United.

Now even when praising West Ham star Michail Antonio, the ‘Boro boss did not beat around the bush.

‘Antonio hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing, but he’s effective’ says Warnock

Speaking to Teeside Live, Warnock compared his new signing Yannick Bolasie to Antonio but rather disparagingly suggesting neither of them know what they are doing.

“I think he (Bolasie) can be like an (Michail) Antonio for us as well,” Warnock told Teeside Live.

“Up front like Antonio does at West Ham, I think he’s got that in his locker. He’d be quite capable of doing that.

“He hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing or what he’s going to do, and Antonio is the same. If they don’t know what they’re going to do, how can a defender? They’re effective.”

Warnock needs to watch excellent Alex Scott analysis and learn a thing or two

Warnock meant it as a back-handed compliment, suggesting if Antonio doesn’t know what he is doing then neither do defenders.

But Antonio has worked tirelessly on his game over the years. And he has become a genuine quality striker up front for West Ham.

The number of goalscoring positions Antonio finds himself in is not by accident.

Anyone watching Alex Scott’s excellent and rather more considered analysis of Antonio from the Crystal Palace game – can see the powerful forward clearly knows what he is doing.

Hard-working Antonio is so much more than just a bundle of pace and power

Yes Antonio left his shooting boots at home that night.

But his targeted runs and very deliberate tactical movement tore Palace apart and opened space for the likes of Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma to exploit.

Speaking of Bolasie, last year the former Palace star named West Ham’s beloved former home Upton Park as his favourite ground to play at.

On the same day Spurs legend David Ginola said the same. See the full story below.
