Talented young West Ham United defender Aji Alese has signed a new deal that runs until the summer of 2023. And some Hammers fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the news.
The 20-year-old really does seem like the real deal.
He has impressed for West Ham’s under-23’s and under-18’s, making a combined 48 appearances for both sides.
Alese has made one competitive senior appearance for the Hammers as well as a couple of friendly outings. He has displayed a certain kind of maturity that defies his tender years every single time he’s taken to the pitch.
The young centre-back joined Cambridge United on loan in January.
Unfortunately for him, however, he has made just two appearances for the League Two outfit.
In spite of that, it is very clear that Alese has a very bright future in the game with West Ham.
Yesterday, the 20-year-old signed a new deal that will keep him at the London Stadium until at least the summer of 2023.
That is a hugely positive move from the Hammers. We need to be tying our top talent down for the future. And with Fabian Balbuena set to move on in the summer, the young defender might just be given a chance with the first-team next season.
