West Ham face challenge as Tottenham allegedly explore potential deal for John Stones

Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing alleged West Ham target John Stones from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, according to a report from the Athletic.

The Daily Mail claims that City ace John Stones is a target for the Hammers.

And ExWHUemployee backed up those claims recently.

David Moyes’s desperation to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium is clear an obvious for everyone to see. We have been linked with a vast array of names.

And Stones was one that really stood out.

But West Ham could face disappointment now with the Athletic claiming that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is exploring a deal to bring the 26-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from the Etihad.

The Sun reported last month that City boss Pep Guardiola could be prepared to sell the England international for around £20 million.

The problem for the Hammers is that if Tottenham are really in for Stones, it will be hard to tempt the City ace into moving to east London instead of north London.

Stats

Stones played just 16 Premier League games for Man City last season. In those outings, he averaged one tackle, 0.6 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game (Who Scored).

Although the City ace didn’t play much last season, he is still a truly top talent. Sure, he makes the odd mistake, but there are not many better than him at playing out from the back.

And losing out on Stones to Tottenham would undoubtedly be a big blow for West Ham.
