Leeds are plotting a move for Brentford winger Said Benrahma, according to a report from Foot Mercato. And this might just force West Ham into acting, if they want to sign one of their alleged long-term targets.
Hammers boss David Moyes needs to prioritise signing a new centre-back and perhaps even a centre-forward before tomorrow’s deadline.
There is an extension for that deadline that expires on October 16th that allows Premier League clubs to trade with EFL clubs, however (BBC).
And the West Ham boss will undoubtedly be looking to add to his ranks before both of those windows slam shut.
Said Benrahma has been a target for the Hammers all summer long.
Le 10 Sport most recently suggested that the east London outfit are still very much in the race for the £23 million ace’s signature. But Moyes will have to act fast.
Foot Mercato claims Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is ready to launch a raid on Brentford to bring the 25-year-old Algeria international to Elland Road.
Missing out on Benrahma to the Whites would be a big blow for West Ham and would serve a further evidence of the gulf in class and ambition between the two clubs at the moment.
The 25-year-old was one of the Championship’s standout players last season. And the Independent described him as ‘outstanding’.
Benrahma racked up an incredible 17 goals and nine assists in 45 league games for the Bees last season (Who Scored).
In those outings, he averaged 3.9 shots, 2.2 key passes and three dribbles per game (Who Scored).
The 25-year-old would be an exceptional addition for West Ham. But Leeds allegedly being ready to pounce for the Algerian will be an unwanted complication for the Hammers.
Let’s just hope that the West Ham owners have a surprise up their sleeves for us. None of us will be holding our breaths, however.
