West Ham were said to have made a £27 million bid for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski a couple of days ago, according to the Telegraph. But it seems like Leicester could end up winning the race for the England international.

ExWHUemployee has claimed that the 27-year-old Clarets ace has no interest in moving to the London Stadium, however:

And now the Daily Star are claiming that Leicester are lining up a £30 million swoop for Tarkowski.

So it seems as though the Hammers’ fleeting hopes of signing the defender are already dead in the water.

Defensive reinforcements required asap

David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his backline this summer.

And having sold Grady Diangana to West Brom for £20 million, he will have all of that money to reinvest back into his West Ham team, according to a statement made by the club’s owners on Friday night.

And Tarkowski would have been the ideal acquisition for the Hammers.

But it seems to be yet another case of the owners being able to say, ‘Oh well, we tried’.

If Moyes is to be able to bring truly top quality players to the London Stadium, he will surely have to sell someone else for a fairly hefty fee in order to make that happen.

Leicester clearly have the upper hand in the race to sign Tarkowski now. And that is incredibly frustrating.

When we moved to the London Stadium from Upton Park we were sold the dream of being able to compete financially with the biggest clubs in world football.

So Leicester beating us to the signing of the Burnley ace would be a real kick in the teeth to every single West Ham fan.
