The 28-year-old attacking midfielder was a really bright talent when he burst onto the scene with Everton 11 years ago.
David Moyes actually gave Barkley his debut for the Toffees in 2011. So it’s no surprise that the Scot was linked with a move to sign his former player.

Thankfully though, that won’t be happening…
West Ham miss out on Ross Barkley to Nice
The ex-Chelsea man has joined Nice on a free transfer (Fabrizio Romano).
Thank God for that! This one is definitely a big bullet dodged by West Ham.
Signing the 33-capped England international would have been a real backwards step for the Hammers.
He’s far too injury prone for what Moyes is trying to build at the London Stadium. He’ll be 29 later this year as well.
He made just six Premier League appearances for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel last season, with only one of those a start (Transfermarkt).

Since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, Barkley has missed 322 days of action and 64 games through injury (Transfermarkt).
During that period of time, the 28-year-old has bagged only 14 goals and 12 assists in 125 games. He has won the Europa League with Chelsea but his time in West London has to go down as a failure.
We think that Moyes would have been interested in bringing his former player to the London Stadium, especially due to his availability on a free transfer.
West Ham signing Ross Barkley would have been a disaster in the making, but thankfully Nice have saved us from that.
