West Ham United manager David Moyes has set Hammers centre-back Kurt Zouma a goal target for this season.

The 27-year-old defender scored the Hammers’ opening goal against Bournemouth last night just before half-time.

Zouma joined West Ham from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for around £30 million (Daily Mail).

He has proven to be an excellent addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium.

Having said that, Zouma seems to be a long way off full fitness this season, with his ongoing knee issues an obvious concern for the club.

When Zouma is at his best though, he is undoubtedly West Ham’s best centre-back.

The ex-Chelsea ace is powerful and imposing, and he makes us look so much more solid when he’s on his best form.

And he was hugely important for the Hammers last night during our 2-0 win over Bournemouth…

The Scot addressed the media last night, after the Hammers’ 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the London Stadium.

And Moyes responded when asked what he thought of Zouma’s header that broke deadlock, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

I want Kurt to get half a dozen goals. We’ve been pretty good at set pieces the last few years. We’ve maybe not quite reached the heights yet – I don’t know if that’s teams defending better against us. Certainly our deliveries haven’t been as good, but I thought tonight our deliveries were a bit better, which gave us a chance of scoring.

Six goals is a fair target for Zouma. He really should be scoring more than he has done for West Ham to date.

The Frenchman has bagged just two goals in 44 games for the Hammers (Soccerbase).

Kurt Zouma is an absolutely unit, and as David Moyes rightly says, he really should be scoring more goals for West Ham.

Hopefully he can bag five or six goals for the Hammers this season, because if he does, it would be a real bonus.
